In President Trump’s address to Congress on 2/28/2017, he said:

“I am calling upon members of both parties to pass an education bill that funds school choice for disadvantaged youth, including millions of African-American and Latino children.  These families should be free to choose the public, private, charter, magnet, religious, or home school that is right for them.”

It is so important that President Trump recognizes that parents should have the freedom to choose what is best for their own children.  Children do not belong to the state. Public education was supposed to be a service to the people. Now it has become an indoctrination center and a means by which the State tries to exert more and more control over the personal lives of ordinary Americans. The days when schools could be trusted to give children a foundation in the basics and in the essence of our great Western Civilization are long over.

I spent many years teaching in the public schools before I had several children of my own and resigned.  I can’t imagine ever going back to working there, unless there’s some kind of radical and revolutionary return to our historical and Constitutional roots in this country. I discouraged my oldest daughter from ever going into education. The pay is not very good, and if you do not adhere to the Social Justice Warrior agenda, you will be marginalized or pushed out. You can spend tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars on a college education, only to have your teaching career constantly at the mercy of hard-core Leftist political operatives and small-minded bureaucrats.

I use the common term Social Justice Warrior (or SJW) as a shortcut to indicate the small-minded cultlike bigots that have largely taken over educational institutions. It is certainly inaccurate and even Orwellian to call these individuals “liberals”. Consider the following quote from Vox Day’s excellent book, SJWs Always LieTaking Down The Thought Police:

“Notice that the code of conduct is expressly seen as a weapon intended to root out and destroy those that the SJWs deem haters, as well as bad thinkers, crime thinkers,  and potential threats to the narrative. The third SJW objective is to keep out non-SJWs and anyone else who is considered likely to challenge either the narrative or SJW control. This is why one often sees corporations engaging in seemingly unproductive actions such as turning away obviously more qualified candidates in favor of hiring less qualified people, promoting lazy and unreliable employees to management instead of the more valuable ones, and favoring mediocrity over excellence.”

–Chapter 10, SJWs Always Lie, by Vox Day

If only someone had explained the above concept to me when I was a child, as Vox Day has done so eloquently in the above quote. I was an academically talented child, and my elementary school used IQ tests to put me in the advanced classes when we lived in the suburbs. Then when we moved to a poor rural area,  I literally could sleep through school and still get As.  My math book in seventh grade in the rural school was the same book I had used in fourth grade in the academically talented class. I started to have little respect the educational system. I saw that most public schools in the modern day were all about glorifying football, with a little bit of academics thrown in just to make it look like they actually were a school. I regularly saw mediocrity rewarded and talent discouraged.

Then when I became a teacher, by that time the schools had degraded even more. The SJWs have stealth control of many corporations, but they absolutely and openly dominate and infest the public schools. The school administrators are typically the least talented and least intelligent people I’ve ever encountered.  They have become good at using very large words and talking a lot,  without ever actually saying anything of substance at all. They might as well just let the schools be run by computers, because you could program the computer to use a lot of large words to say and do absolutely nothing. It would be much cheaper than the six digit salaries that administrators receive.

I hope that President Trump will be successful in his quest to repair our extremely broken American educational system. Until he does that, your children are at an extreme disadvantage if they attend a public school. If you are in an emergency situation and have no choice, you can supplement your child’s education at home with a good foundation in the Trivium. I have found homeschooling to work best for our family, because even the private schools in our area have been taken over by SJWs and the dumbed-down, profiteering Common Core Curriculum.  I agree with President Trump, though, that whatever you choose to be best for your child is your decision!

Homeschooling is a viable choice for any parent who finds the other educational choices in their area to be inadequate. Any parent is fully qualified to teach elementary school. Then when you get into more specialized classes in the high school years, if you don’t feel comfortable teaching all of the homeschool classes, there are enormous amounts of choices and resources available to homeschooling families.

I believe in the principle of subsidiarity, that the smallest unit possible to accomplish a task will accomplish the task most efficiently. Homeschooling illustrates this principle beautifully. When done properly,  the students are obviously going to end up with a better education, because they get more attention and more personalized learning, the same things that public school teachers are always saying they need more money to try to re-create in the public school classroom.

If you are able to homeschool your children, there are a multitude of resources available on the Internet and in your local library. I encourage anyone considering this step to take the plunge. It’s the smartest thing I ever did for my family and my children.
